Comprehensive Forestry Assessment Services

Dense evergreen forest covering a mountain range

Soil & Forestry Consulting delivers practical, field-driven Forestry Assessment services that support informed forest management and sustainable land use. Serving clients throughout all of Alberta, northeastern British Columbia, and western Saskatchewan, we work across a wide range of forested and mixed-use landscapes.

Our forestry assessments focus on understanding ecosystem conditions, forest composition, and land capability to support responsible planning and decision-making. Drawing on extensive experience in forestry, soils, vegetation, and rangeland evaluation, we provide reliable data and clear recommendations for projects at every stage, from pre-harvest planning to long-term monitoring and management.

Ecological Land Classification (ELC)

Our ecological land classification (ELC) services involve the systematic classification of land and forest ecosystems based on soils, vegetation, climate, and ecological processes.

ELC assessments provide essential baseline information to support forest management, land-use planning, and environmental decision-making. By identifying ecological site conditions and ecosystem relationships, these assessments help guide sustainable forestry practices and long-term resource use.

Pre-harvest Assessments and Post-harvest Silvicultural Prescriptions

Soil & Forestry Consulting conducts pre-harvest forestry assessments and develops post-harvest silvicultural prescriptions to support responsible forest operations.

These services include the development of forest management plans that outline:

  • appropriate harvesting methods

  • regeneration objectives

  • post-harvest treatments to support forest recovery

Our approach ensures that harvesting activities are planned with long-term forest health, productivity, and regulatory compliance in mind.

Timber Cruising and Permanent Sample Plots

We provide timber cruising and establish permanent forestry sample plots to collect accurate forest inventory data.

These services involve the collection and analysis of information related to timber volume, stand composition, and growth rates. The resulting data support forest valuation, harvest planning, and long-term monitoring of forest conditions.

Range Health Assessments

As part of our forestry and land-based services, Soil & Forestry Consulting also offers Range Health Assessments.

These assessments evaluate rangeland condition with a focus on:

  • vegetation health

  • soil stability

  • grazing impacts

Range health assessments are used to inform sustainable land-use and grazing management practices, helping protect both ecological integrity and long-term land productivity.
